monaco
i just finished reading "go" by john clellon holmes. i loved it. a darker and perhaps even a more sensitive verison of those early beat days than i've read by any other beat author. if you've read "on the road" or any of the other classic beat novels but not read "go" then now is the time to seek it out and soak it up!
listening to howlin' rain right now, it sounds the exact opposite to the cold, wet and dark outside of my window. i could be in california somewhere, probably driving, instead the outside streets here look more like joy division sound.
this week i have been working on some new tex la homa song ideas. i am in the process of putting together a very naked collection of new songs which are much more minimal than even previous recordings but they are also, very melodic. more on this soon...
the latest tex la homa cd was released last week. it's called "apport" and is a very limited edition. it contains 8 very different sounding tracks, with an extreem close up of one of the stones at stonehenge on the cover, and a hand written and drawn insert.
i have started to work with nick grey on some new 230 divisadero songs. we have sent some tracks out to friends that we hope will be collaborating with us on these new songs. more on this soon too...!
nick and i recently spent some time together in monaco, working on new ideas and developing plans for world domination. this was aided by much vodka and red bull and german beer. the debut 230 divisadero album will be coming out on locust in september. our first live gigs will probably be sometime in may.
there will also be an ep coming out in an edition of just 100 copies on barl fire in the next couple of months. the ep is called "the breather key" and was recorded over a few days the first time i went to see nick at his appartment in monaco. it is quite different from both "a vision of lost unity" and the recently finished debut album but somehow still sounds exactly like us. so if you want a copy then keep your eyes peeled on the 230 divisadero website at www.230divisadero.com or the my space page at www.myspace.com/230divisadero or of course check out the barl fire website and while you're at it explore the other fine releases also available from this great label. http://homepages.tesco.net/%7Ebeautiful.day/Barl_Fire_Recordings.htm
on sunday i plan to visit the nine stones of winterbourne abbas. the tree there has recently been cut down and i am interested to see how the place has changed as a result. it is one of my favourite places and i hope it still feels the same without the tree.
