on one of the albums of 2020, with an instrumental tribute to Florian
Schneider and Kraftwerk.<br /><span class="lightweightBreak"></span><br />"On
one afternoon on a bright early April day of 2020 I was listening to
Kraftwerk and reading an old interview with Florian Schneider. The part
that caught my attention was Florian describing listening to the
wireless, late at night, under his blanket, listening to Nachtmusik.
Florian would fall asleep to the sound of the music and then dream his
own music. It made me consider how this music, these late night
listening sessions came to be an influence on Kraftwerk. It also made me
wonder what the music Florian was listening to would have <span class="peekaboo-text" id="package_description_0">sounded like. The act of listening to a radio at low volume</span><span class="bcTruncateMore"><span class="peekaboo-text" id="package_description_0">
last into the night was familiar to me from late night John Peel shows.
Over the years I have heard so many people share the same memory, and
the generation before talk about Radio Caroline and pirate stations in
the same way. <br /><span class="lightweightBreak"></span><br />In the
summer of 2020 I was listening again to Krafwerk this time on headphones
in the garden, it was a hot sunny afternoon and at some point during
Tour de France I fell asleep. On waking I was scrolling back to hear a
track I couldn’t remember hearing before but it wasn’t there on the
tape. This became the beginning of my album Nachtmusik. It is a dreaming
and imagining of music I had never heard, that Florian Schneider
certainly never heard. Yet it fitted together in my mind into a method
of composing, based on the idea of electronic Nachtmusik, imagined
rather than heard and now created from that idea. The album has been
produced using vintage synths and effects alongside modern equipment and
is my tribute to falling asleep to late night radio and to Florian
Schneider." </span></span></p><p><span class="bcTruncateMore"><span class="peekaboo-text" id="package_description_0">Listen <a href="https://glassmodern.bandcamp.com/album/nachtmusik" target="_blank">here</a> <br /></span></span></p><p><span class="bcTruncateMore"><span class="peekaboo-text" id="package_description_0"> <br /></span></span></p><p><br /></p>matt.texlahoma@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15805660784882178635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8565364714326343677.post-74773166970082437952020-11-24T18:00:00.005+00:002020-11-24T18:00:56.382+00:00<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNiWJ0357V63TsfrGcjDhLsDSoJKL76_yRy32sVONw_zuIdbJxF7ygzg_KQUU8ywcuLX8yCxIoOvuWFDuf0hgfIYo5V8FUnbweXBOE-ng8UD-nvuiwoZOY7QYSDUuT7bqRjMPRoZ0TWbyv/s1024/matt-725x1024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="725" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNiWJ0357V63TsfrGcjDhLsDSoJKL76_yRy32sVONw_zuIdbJxF7ygzg_KQUU8ywcuLX8yCxIoOvuWFDuf0hgfIYo5V8FUnbweXBOE-ng8UD-nvuiwoZOY7QYSDUuT7bqRjMPRoZ0TWbyv/s320/matt-725x1024.jpg" /></a></div><br />Atmosphere of Mona is my new book, published by Annwyn House. On Sunday 24th April at <span class="_4n-j fsl">the Priest House Museum, in the center of Wimborne, Dorset I performed a new piece called Panarchy.</span><br />
The piece can be downloaded for free along with other performances from the day <a href="https://archive.org/details/nocti31" target="_blank">here</a><br />
Inspired by the theory in which systems of nature, humans as well as
combined human-natural systems are interlinked in continual adaptive
cycles.<br />
<br />
<span class="_4n-j fsl">The event was set up by Adrian Newton to Celebrate a century of Dada, in a garden setting.</span><br />
<span class="_4n-j fsl">It included</span><br />
– Performances of improvised and experimental music<br />
– Installations, sound art, horticulture, notallotments<br />
– Experimental video, dada manifestations, things left behind<br />
An installation featuring my piece Venus Rosalia was also featured on the day entitled ‘Sounds emanating from foliage’<br />
Here is a short clip of the piece on the day<br />
<br />
<br />
The program featured works by Gerauschhersteller, Nemeton, Matthew Shaw, Max Bellancourt, Language Timothy!, Watt Tyler, Order of the Hoof, Jon Lloyd, Rochelle Rochelle, Michael Tanner, David Rogers – and more<br />

<br />
The first here was recorded on June 24th in Christchurch Dorset, my version of the traditional folk song John Barleycorn.<br />
<iframe frameborder="no" height="450" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/211825562&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%"></iframe>
The second piece was recorded following the dawn ceremony at Stonehenge on June 22nd, an improvised piece with the sound of the summer shower in the background.

Jo is an artist with an interest in natural history and the grotesque,
currently working primarily in live art and installation. Trained at the
Slade School of Fine Art, Jo exhibits internationally and teaches
Natural History Illustration. Mark is a writer and experimental

In reality the space in which one entered was quite otherworldly, or more literally under-earthly. The same kind of atmosphere as being below ground, in a cave, or Fogou or Souterrain. The darkness and light pulsating cocoon / womb in the center of the room the main visual focus. Aurally, washes of sounds at low level maintained and added to the visual signals and our olfactory sense was awakened by a mycelium fragrance created by fine fragrance perfumer Simon Constantine. Off the main room was a trip into the earth, within, enveloped, consumed in darkness and the slight glittering of light reflected diamonds as semi precious stones within.<br />

When the performance began the shamanic channeling of the microbial took collective consciousness to an animistic universality, of which we all played a part. Our guide departed as if by magic, her purpose completed after a sunwise channeling with liquid fluency building layers of texture on a once dark dawn.<br />

A musical exploration and journeying by Matthew Shaw into the birth
of Taliesin from the traditional tales of the Mabinogion as collected
and translated by Lady Charlotte Guest in 1877. Music, voice and
composition by Matthew Shaw in Dorset, 2015.<br />
Intended as a radio broadcast of the type I used to love hearing but
rarely do anymore, or those plays, created for Television, before
reality TV saved the channels a fortune in scriptwriters, actors and
composers. This is the first in a planned series of episodes exploring
ancient texts, alchemical theories, and various curiosities from my
collection.<br />

<br />
Tweoxneam is a long form sound poem based on the palimpsests and
toponymies of Matthew Shaw's hometown Christchurch. The mysteries of its
apocryphal and actual history are soundtracked with a carefully
unfolding procession of organic music and birdsong. Nature and focused
obsession leading to supernature, psyche picks her geographies. The
vision is very much twinned with the infinite village of Stanley
Spencer's Cookham. Twoexneam is presented with a visual and textual
guide taking in the Dorset world of Gerald Gardner, the appearance of
Christ-like carpenters, and the still sounding tocsins of neolithic
power centres. <br />
